Arepa

This is a very simple recipe made with pre-cooked maiz flour that you can buy in south American shops and/or Italian Delis.

This is a recipe from south America and they use it to make street food buns that they fill with either meat or vegetables. It is very simple and quick to make, so this is one of my quick lunch meals that is filling and fun. You can fill it in with anything you fancy and it becomes the gluten free version of a sandwich. This recipe is gluten free, dairy free, sugar free, vegan and vegetarian

PREPARATION & COOKING TIME: 15 mins

INGREDIENTS for 5 patties

200gr white maiz flour (like P.A.N.)

250gr water

½ teaspoon salt

50ml sunflower oil

  • Mix the maiz and salt
  • Add water and form into a ball
  • Divide into 5 patties and flatten with the hand or cut with a ring cutter for more precise edges
  • Place sunflower oil in a pan and place patties on hot oil, cooking each side for 2-3 minutes or until golden
  • Once ready cut the patties in half and fill with whatever you fancy
